Funding received from the European Union Peace and Reconciliation Programme, enabled the project to facilitate 100 students from 5 primary schools from the WELB and Sligo VEC, namely, St Mary’s PS Teemore; Kesh PS; St Paul’s National School Sligo; St Joseph’s Boys’ National School Sligo and Mary Immaculate Girls’ National School Sligo.
The cross border and cross community event provided an opportunity for students to take part in activities such as jujitsu, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, athletics and boxercise.
Ryan Cunningham, WELB Sports Development Officer, said: “The atmosphere in Enniskillen combined with the young people’s excitement added to the experience of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Speaking after the event, Kesh PS Principal, Jill Parkinson, said: “A memorable day was had for all involved with the children participating fully in a varied range of organised sporting activities coordinated by specialised coaches.”
