Pupil Personal Development Services
The Pupil Personal Development Services team within WELB promotes the development of early intervention services for children and young people who are experiencing difficulties in relation to identified personal development issues, cross phase. The remit of the Pupil Personal Development Services Team is to build capacity within schools and provide advice on the development of policy and practice in relation to pupils' personal development and emotional well-being, including anti-bullying, loss and bereavement, pupil participation, emotional health and well-being, Looked After Children issues and critical incidents. The team is also involved in facilitating the development of a counselling service to schools.
Support will be provided through the following:
1. Whole School Initiatives
This will involve school-based training and support for teachers and other school staff in relation to preventative strategies when responding to concerns or incidents and when implementing planned interventions in schools. Whole school training can also be accessed to enable schools to improve their capacity to respond appropriately and to revise policies, procedures and practices in relation to pupil personal development and well-being issues.
2. Group Work
Group Work can be facilitated by team members in relation to pupil personal development issues such as transition and change, loss and bereavement and anti-bullying. Parental consent must be obtained by the school for all pupils who become involved in group work. Additionally it would be expected that a nominated member of school staff would work co-jointly with team members in relation to the planning and delivery of this work so that strategies of support can be shared with schools.
3. INSET
The Pupil Personal Development Services Team contributes to the boards in-service training programme to build capacity, enabling schools to respond to the personal development and emotional well-being needs of pupils. Please click here to view the Inset and Cluster Training.
The Team is led by Ruth Bell, Acting Adviser who is based in SELB Headquarters, Armagh (028 37 512397).
