Equality (Section 75)

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (the Act), requires the Board, in carrying out its functions relating to Northern Ireland, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity between persons of different religious belief; political opinion; racial group; age; marital status; sexual orientation; between men and women generally; between persons with a disability and persons without; and between persons with dependants and those without.

In addition, the Board should have regard to the desirability of promoting good relations between persons of different religious belief, political opinion or racial group.

The Education Authority Western Region is fully committed to the fulfilment of its obligations under Section 75 (Equality Duties) of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998.  EAWR has developed an Equality Scheme which sets out how it will meet these obligations and equality and human rights training has been provided to staff.

The Chief Executive is responsible to the EAWR for ensuring that the EAWR fully complies with its Equality Scheme.  Each member of the Senior Management Team is responsible to the Chief Executive for ensuring that each functional service area complies fully with the Equality Scheme.
