Governor Support Services

Aim 

To provide information and training to ensure that Boards of Governors are effective in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities in accordance with legislation and best practice.
 
Functions

• To provide an extensive training programme each academic year for governors of all schools;

• To provide advice and support on current educational issues, and serve, where necessary, as an access point to other areas of expertise within the WELB;
• Responsible for the leadership, management and strategic development of pastoral support for Controlled Schools;
• Responsible for the strategic and operational management of 'The Employer Function' for all the Board's Controlled Schools;
• To provide advice and support to the Principal and Board of Governors of Controlled Schools in relation to the Scheme of Management;
• To provide advice and support to Controlled Schools on the appointment of Principal and Vice Principals;
• To provide advice and support to Interim Boards of Governors during an Amalgamation process;
• To provide advice and support to Principals and Boards of Governors of schools during a closure process;
• To promote the Professional Qualification for Headteachers (PQH).
