The Section is responsible for the planning and development of the Board's major and minor capital building schemes and the identification of the need for newbuild provision, the refurbishment of deficient accommodation and the re-organisation and/or rationalisation of accommodation. Enrolment trends and profiles at controlled nursery, primary, post-primary and special schools are monitored on an ongoing basis. The accommodation needs of schools and other Board services are assessed annually and the Section creates:

• A programme of major capital schemes and economic appraisals for such schemes
• A programme of minor works within the designated annual budget
• A programme of temporary accommodation needs
• A programme of works to be carried out under the Londonderry Regeneration Initiative
• The identification of accommodation requirements and the provision of a programme of works to be carried out under the Pre-School Expansion Programme
• A programme of schemes to be carried out under the Reinvestment and Reform Initiative
• A programme of schemes to be carried out through the Specialist Accommodation Programme
