Activities at Gortatole

Some groups may come to the centre for residentials packed with activities. Others may want to do their own programme. It is entirely up to you. Activities are planned with the visiting leaders/teachers and participants. Activities on offer at Gortatole include:

This activity takes place mainly in the indoor purpose designed range at Gortatole. Archery is a sport for all. It can be conceived as a competitive or non competitive sport and can provide an individual with the necessary base for quick skill acquisition development enhancing a sense of real learning and personal development at any age or ability.

Participants navigate by map and compass through a series of markers, located at various points within a specifically mapped area. Orienteering is a recreational activity accessible to all requiring many skills also associated with the School academic curriculum.
Hill-walking/Day walks
This simply involves a walk in a natural setting from location to destination and carrying the necessary survival items on one's back while exploring the environment, enjoying he scenery and interacting with others.

Wall Climbing
Wall climbing occurs on Gortatole's two purpose -built structures, one outdoor, the other indoor. Climbing walls are now well established as a popular facility for sports climbing (the new extension of rock climbing). They are used for indoor sports climbing, rock-climbing training and competitive rock sport.
